    72 Hours in Porto

    Curator's Statement

The good news: I was fortunate enough to accompany my husband on a recent work trip to Porto, Portugal. The bad news: after travel days, I only had about 72 hours to experience the city, so we had to make the most of it. Our days were packed with sightseeing, guided tours, port tastings, and delicious food. It was short, but long enough for me to fall in love with Porto—and I’ve been dreaming about returning ever since. Since I only had three nights, I splurged on a stay at The Yeatman, a five‑star wine hotel perched on the Gaia hillside. With sweeping views of the Douro and Porto’s tiled rooftops, it’s an ideal home base for exploring—and unwinding.

    View from The Yeatman Hotel

Check-in at The Yeatman around 3 pm. Settle in and enjoy your welcome amenity—a half bottle of port and fresh pastéis de nata in your room. Take a self-guided tour of the hotel grounds and pool deck to soak up that Douro view. Walk down toward the riverside in Gaia (10-15 minutes) to stretch your legs and catch your first riverfront sunset.

Day 2: Classic Porto Sights & Cellars

    Private Yacht Tour

Private yacht tour on the Douro

Start with breakfast at The Yeatman with panoramic views. Take a private tuk-tuk tour through central Porto to visit São Bento Station (azulejos tiles!), Sé Cathedral, and scenic steep streets without wearing out your feet.

Pro tip: Take the Teleférico de Gaia cable car up to Jardim do Morro at sunset. Grab a cold beverage, watch the sun set over the Dom Luís I Bridge, and enjoy the views with locals.

Day 3: Douro Valley Day Trip

    The Douro Valley

Pick up at The Yeatman for a driver-guided day trip into the Douro Valley. Visit two or three wine estates for port and DOC Douro tastings, ending with a scenic ride on a traditional rabelo boat on the river.

Day 4: Last Moments & Departure

    View from The Yeatman

One last hotel breakfast overlooking the river. Pick up local preserves, port, or canned fish before heading to Porto airport.

    Need to know

Pro tip: Base yourself in Gaia at The Yeatman to avoid packing up between nights. Porto is very hilly and full of stairs — use taxis or tuk-tuks for longer hops.
